Actually anyone can do this. These "mm" are buying and selling on our behalf.
I can place a bid for .096 and sell at .101 if I already owned shares. Your broker will go through a "mm" and is usually the same one for both buying and selling.
So I wouldn't assume that the MM's are plying games here.
