Analysis:

Favorable investment case for SPBU:
Launching its Proprietary Products. Several core customers (including Wirefly, LSG) are now in the process of launching SPBU’s systems/software on mobile devices. At LSG, for example, it is possible that as many as 500,000 installations can be introduced on a monthly basis. This represents a potential initial market opportunity of 6 million devices per year. Assuming a monthly charge of $1.00 per device (or $12/year), and a 50% market share, the annual gross revenue for SPBU could be $35 million. These projections are based solely on SPBU’s current contract with LSG. Should the Company capture more of LSG’s total customer base—e.g., insurance, banking, finance—the relationship could expand into a $100-million potential.

The Global Market Opportunity for Mobile Devices Is Huge. There are currently 5 billion mobile phones being used. And the market is growing 8-10%/year. We think SPBU’s “addressable” market opportunity is at least 2 billion devices. Clearly, the arithmetic suggests that SPBU could become a “hundreds of millions of dollars” enterprise in less than five years.
Spare is Savvy about Protection/Backup Systems for “Smart Phones”—one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. The Company has several “core” customer agreements with some of the leading providers/sellers of mobile devices in the world: LSG, the largest United Kingdom provider of mobile phone insurance, which is available to more than 9.5 million customers; Car Phone Warehouse (CPW), one of Europe’s leading mobile device retailers (and part of Best Buy Europe); Simplexity, which owns Wirefly.com mobile devices retail website (Simplexity is the Internet’s leading authorized seller in the U.S. of cell phones and wireless service); and Sprint, through its contract with Assurant (which strengthens Spare’s systems for Tablets, including the iPad and Android).
SPBU will be both Profitable and Cash Flow Positive in 2012. Company’s operating expenses (Research and Development, SGA) are running at $12-15 million/year. Estimated SPBU’s gross profit margin (after applying varying “customer revenue-sharing” arrangements) is 60%. Hence, the “threshold” revenue base for SPBU to achieve profitability is $30-35 million. And we think the Company can hit or exceed that level in 2012. At such levels SPBU would also be comfortable cash-flow positive.

SPBU could be close to breakeven and cash flow positive right now.

As the Company fully ramps up with four of its “core” customers in 2012, estimated revenues should approach $50 million, and expect SPBU to report a net profit of more than $10 million, or $0.05 per share. Expect Spare to report a net loss of more than $10 million in 2011.

The long-term prospects for SPBU are even more impressive. Revenues could more than double in 2013 and could be at least $250 million by 2015. This suggests earnings likely hitting $0.15-$0.20 per share in 2013 and $0.60-$0.65 per share in 2015.

Current Price (5/8/12): $0.045
3-month Target: $0.22
6-month Target: $0.51
1-year Target: $1.25
