Katrina has shown us that nature is in control. IMO we should work with natural systems and not against them. It is OK to open up roads here and there for beach access but why invest money for land development where storm surges wreck havoc? Even if the communities are wiped out only once a generation that is too much.
Bottom line: work with nature, don't fight against it. That is your best investment. Think about our kids and their kids.
BTW: my siter in law and her husband lived 2 blocks from the 17th street levee breach right next to Lake Ponchitrane. They are renting a cabin now in Northern Louisiana. Thank God they are alive.
