The most important implication of SGMO's zinc fingers and KBLB's use of them is this, IMHO:

Zinc fingers are being used VERY extensively by researchers to the point where they have become the default option/tool of choice*1 for genetic modifications: no other genetic modification tool is even in the same category(much less comes even remotely close)! Zinc fingers have very consistently worked the first time (in the overwhelming majority of cases. In rare exceptions they have to be "tweaked" a bit, but that is now routine) and made the insertions into EXACTLY the location intended.

All other genetic modification tools are random, being very problematic of success, especially in cases like modifying silkworms silk making pathways where the insertions must be expressed only in particular tissues and only at a particular stage of development and only under the control of specific regulators.

Other tools for genetic modification are very expensive, take a long time and have the potential for causing very serious problems due to being inserted into "unfortunate" locations. Only ZFs are inexpensive, only ZFs are virtually certain of success, and only ZFs make the insertion in EXACTLY the desired location, virtually every time (there are exceptions, but they are rare and readily corrected).

AND ONLY KBLB CAN USE SGMO/SIAL'S ZINC FINGERS IN SILKWORMS!

It could be done (at much greater expense, taking a LOT more time and with great uncertainty of success, using the piggyBac, but KBLB ALSO HAS EXCLUSIVE USE OF ND'S PIGGYBAC IN SILKWORMS.

*1 for an example of just how true that is, go to

http://www.abstracts2view.com/asgct/sessionindex.php

(The gene and cell therapy organization conference)

go to the abstracts and do a search for "zinc finger"
25 of the abstracts involve the use of zinc fingers!

and note that almost all of the research involves ZINC FINGERS (and the research in this conference was started years ago!

http://www.genengnews.com/advertisements/275?issueid=181

http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/life-science/zinc-finger-nuclease-technology/compozr-kit.html

And KBLB OWNS the use of zinc fingers in the silkworm. PLUS ND's piggyBac. PLUS those 200 spider genes in silk production pathways. PLUS KBLB's patent on the sequence modifications necessary to get spider silk protein incorporated into the structure of silkworm silk.

PS Thank you for the excellent (as usual!) link to the SGMO transcript. It is a very good overview of what SGMO is doing and will make clear the significance it has for speeding up KBLB's work.
