Internet Broadband and E-Commerce in the Dominican Republic
June 2011 Review
The Dominican Republic has over 3,851,278 Internet users as of December, 2010. This figure corresponds to 505,423 household accounts and 117,508 at work accounts. Most of the subscribers use DSL for access, and 243,645 subscriptions correspond to mobile accounts (smart phones). With this accomplishment, the official government's growth target has been fully met as anticipated, according to Secretary of State and Presidente of Indotel (Dominican Telecommunications Institute) Jose Rafael Vargas.
Telephone density in the Dominican Republic is more than 65%, a very good figure anywhere in the world. Broadband DSL represents about 60% of the total Internet subscribers, as already mentioned.
