venice - NVEI spent 2.25 million to produce the movie. they are entitled to get 100% of all profits until that sum is paid off.

assuming your worst case scenario, if the movie grosses 10 mil, 50% of that goes to ticket sales ( leaving 5 mil ) and then a distributor gets 50% of that, it leaves about 2.5 mil to pay for the cost of the movie. so according to my math 10 mil in gross ticket sales is a little closer than the 18 mil you referred to.

of course if they sell the movie outright and there is nobody but NVEI taking a cut, 2.25 million should be the break even point. anything above that would be split 50/50 between NVEI and the bruce brown family.

please feel free to correct me if these numbers are incorrect and thank you for your insight into the movie business. in the end i think everybody agrees that while SIL will be a long time money maker it's best for the company to get the best deal they can now and move on with the technology.
