Interesting, the population of central America (including Mexico)is about half of North America. I just returned from a month in Mexico where I visited some Mayan sites, including one large one (Calakmul) on the Yucatan peninsula near the Belizian/Guatemala border. Even though the population of Belize is relatively small (app. 350,000), the importance of the Mayan civilization throughout Central AMerica goes way beyond the 2012 hype here in N. Am.
While there, I met and travelled with a tour guide from Mexico City who was reserching a new tour for the company based on visiting the Mayan Ruin sites throughout the Yucatan Peninsula. Although some sites are world-renowned such as Chitzen-Itza and Tulum, other sites such as Calakmul, Becan, etc., which are more 'out of the way' have the potential to become more well recognized... at least from the view of a local tour guide from Mexico city..... don't underestimate the potential of this Mayan connection.
Wether or not this concert comes to fruition, I believe it has the potential to gain some serious attention throughout the world and it's good to see that the management in this group of companies seems to 'see the big picture' - globally.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out closer to the concert date.
