Years ago......

there were Methodist circuit riders, preachers on horseback who braved the cold weather and lack of roads and danger of indians attacks to bring the Gospel to the pioneers. Led by the colossal efforts of Francis Asbury, who traveled nearly 300,000 miles on horseback and preached nearly 16,000 sermons from 1771 to 1816, an army of circuit riders were inspired to go where the pioneers went. In the span of time, the Methodists grew in number from only 300 members with four ministers to over 200,000 with 2,000 ministers, many with little formal education but who spoke the language of the frontier folks. The Methodist also gave unprecedented freedom to both women and African-Americans to participate and make significant contribution.

Simultaneously. the Baptist sent out ther "Farmer Preachers". As was true to the Methodist, the Baptists developed systems that made it easy for committed Laypeople to enter the ministry and to be deployed quickly where the greatest opportunities were. Most of these preachers had little education and poorly paid, but were in touch with the pioneer's lives. With an emphasis on the need for a personal conversion and salvation from sin through faith in Jesus Christ, these ministers spread the Gospel far and wide.

As was true in the founding of the American colonies, Christians planted many of American colleges as the nation moved west, including such notable institutions as Northwestern University in Chicago, which was founded by the Methodist, and the University of California at Berkely, which was founded by the Presbyterians before becoming a state university.

NOW !! If you read the above, did any thoughts come to mind? This morning after reading this I thought of Tenac, who post regularly both here and fb....so much of his past life he offers to idenify with others traveling a road he traveled....I thought of Excel who has taken a few chapters out of his life and came up with the Bible Board to reach out to others...checking the board marks, I would say God is using his board for His own good...This board over the years has offered many such people who have suffered from addictations, broken hearts, lonliness, abuse, lack of faith, etc. and have brought their redemption from such and posted, hoping that one may profit from their past

Then I thought of the fact that so much of God's work was done by folks with very little education and their obidience to God allowed Him to work miracles. Here we need to take a note, God often calls upon the most unlikely to do His work

Then I thought of how we put way too much emphasis on education, political correctness, in spreading God's Word...we need to develope more confidence in ourselves and trust in God to lead the way

I often refer to myself as being "Dumb as a rock"..lol...Maybe ole dummies such as I, need in our daily life to make a difference. A kind word to the cashier, a little patience with the waiter/waitress, a tad bit of better road/driving manners, an offering to others to have a Blessed Day....each day ask God to put one in your path of whom you may witness to. Remember the only Bible others may read is You & me.....
