Delphi and Philips Develop Innovative Software Radio DSP

SAN JOSE, CA -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 02/10/2003 -- Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG), (AEX: PHI) and Delphi Corp. (NYSE: DPH), have jointly developed the next generation state-of-the-art digital tuner for vehicle entertainment systems. The combination of Delphi Delco Electronics Systems’ world leadership in digital car entertainment systems and Philips’ leadership position in Car DSPs (Digital Signal Processor) will provide enhanced audio and radio reception in the car.

This next-generation tuner offers the listener clarity, enhanced noise suppression and reduces multipath channel effect, which provides consistent sound quality under dynamic reception conditions. The tuner chipset architecture also provides the interface required for the new digital-quality HD Radio features.

Philips’ Car DSP, the SAF7730, enabled Delphi to develop proprietary radio software that will provide world-class reception performance through the use of advanced DSP algorithms. The SAF7730 is a unique single-chip DSP solution with several integrated powerful DSP cores for audio and radio processing.

“Philips’ radio DSP will become a key device in Delphi’s future car radio systems,” said Bob Schumacher, business line executive for Delphi’s Wireless Business Line. “We are proud that our venture with Philips will provide our customers with excellent audio quality and will allow us to use our own software for unsurpassed radio reception performance.”

“Philips is the global leader in Car DSPs,” said Pascal Langlois, vice-president, Global Market Segment Automotive, Philips Semiconductors. “Working closely with Delphi, the market leader for vehicle mobile multimedia systems, enables both companies to benefit from huge synergies and further strengthens our market position.”
