How many layers of proofreading

does an article have to undergo to reach the front page of May 5th WSJ Weekend Edition? The full name of the “who” belongs in the first paragraph or at least the second. Every other print outlet got it right. The leading front page article entitled Resume Trips Up Yahoo’s Chief did not spell out the “who” until paragraph 12 on page 10. The “who” as it turns out was Dan Loeb the largest stockholder of Yahoo.

Dan Loeb is demanding that newly hired Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson be fired by noon Monday for lying on his resume. Turns out, CEO Thompson received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from Stonehill College in Massachusetts, not one in computer science as stated. So what?

Personally, I believe if anyone should be fired by Mr. Loeb’s deadline it should be those at WSJ failing Journalism 101. The oversight is accentuated due to the fact that the article not only denounces CEOs who embellish their resume with university degrees they do not hold but it indirectly overstates the wisdom of holding a sheepskin to begin with. What’s the degree requirement for WSJ junior editor? Hilarious!
