Alan A. Nadel


Alan serves as Managing Director of Strategic Apex Group LLC, an executive compensation and corporate governance consulting firm with offices in New York, Los Angeles and London. For almost 40 years he has served a diverse range of clients on matters relating to corporate governance, executive and board of directors compensation, employee benefits, retirement programs, and income tax and estate planning.

In his current practice, Alan advises clients about the design and implementation of executive and board member programs, including the strategic, financial, funding, accounting and tax considerations, as well as on various aspects of corporate governance. Also, he has represented various companies and senior executives in negotiations concerning employment agreements, severance programs and change-in-control arrangements. Alan also has provided expert testimony in both civil and criminal matters. Clients include public and private companies, domestic as well as international.

Prior to establishing SAG, Alan was a partner at Ernst & Young LLP following his career at Arthur Andersen LLP where he established Andersen’s Compensation and Benefits Consulting practice and served as its Managing Partner – Human Capital. Before joining Andersen Alan established, built and sold an actuarial consulting and benefits administration firm. Previously he was with Price Waterhouse after starting his career at the Internal Revenue Service. He is a Certified Public Accountant and holds an MBA in Taxation (City University of New York), APC (MS) in Actuarial Science (New York University) and BS in Mathematics (John Carroll University).

Alan is a coauthor of Accounting for Equity Compensation (1st and 2nd editions) and Equity Compensation for Limited Liability Companies. He is a contributing author of The Employee Benefits Handbook, The Stock Options Book and Executive Compensation in ESOP Companies. He has lectured at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, New York University School of Law (LLM program), Yale University Law School and the City University of New York Graduate Program. Alan has developed and led in-house training for a number of companies including AT&T, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Neuberger Berman, Daiwa, Salomon Brothers, Pitney Bowes and Estee Lauder Company. He has served as an expert advisor to the Financial Accounting Standards Board and testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor. He is a frequent speaker for professional and industry groups worldwide, has been quoted in various business publications and newspapers, and has appeared on a number of nationally-televised business programs.

Alan’s board memberships include the American Benefits Council, the Certified Equity Professional Institute and the New York Employee Benefits Group. His editorial board affiliations include the Compensation Planning Journal, the Journal of Retirement Planning and the Journal of Compensation and Benefits
