LIEBERMAN--Arthur M. Formerly of New York City, passed away peacefully from lung cancer in Los Angeles on May 1, 2012. Father of five and grandfather of nine, he loved his family and they adored him. Arthur was a legendary litigator and dealmaker until the end. His storied career and bold life was filled with laughter and love. Born to Lou and Pearl Lieberman on September 6, 1935, he attended Stuyvesant High School, graduating at 16 years old to attend Cornell University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. After transferring to New York University, Arthur graduated with honors in electrical engineering. Soon after graduation, he married the former Doris Greenberg, joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Westover Air Force base in Massachusetts. He retired a Captain. Arthur returned to New York where he worked for ITT, attended Brooklyn Law School at night and had three children with Doris who he was married to for 18 years. Upon graduation, he joined the law firm Hopgood Calimafde, practicing intellectual property law which became his hallmark. Making partner in four years, he was a licensing expert and patent litigator, appearing before many federal and state trial and appellate courts. Arthur then founded his own successful intellectual property firm, Lieberman & Nowak. A larger than life character in his own right, Arthur was best known for his dealings in the world of heroes. Arthur brought together warring factions to unite the Robert E. Howard library of characters and create Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja movies. He parlayed that success into his partnership with comic book legend Stan Lee and Gil Champion in POW Entertainment. As much as he loved the "art" of the deal, he loved his family more. The foundation of his family life for over 30 years was his marriage to his beloved former Beverly Trogdon with whom he had two children. Together, they built homes in Connecticut, Florida but neither more spectacular than a lakeside ranch in Montana where he finally found a place as big as he was. Beverly passed away five years ago, also from cancer. Arthur will be missed by his family of 20: his sister Mimi Shapiro of Fort Myers, Florida; his son Mark Lieberman of New York and wife Ann Marie and children Jake, Alex and Rena; daughter Shari Balaish of New York and husband Amos and children Timor, Ori and Maytal; son Mitch Lieberman of Vermont and his wife Bethany and children Andrew, Noah and Emma; son and business partner Luke Lieberman of California and wife Shannon; and youngest daughter Samantha Steinkamp of California and husband Jeff, whose wedding Arthur was determined to attend; walking Samantha down the aisle only three weeks ago was his last act of courage in what was the last of many family gatherings with Arthur atop the head table ... but many more to come in his honor and wish ...
