Nortel's turn around and guidance should be viewed as being
critical, they make everything for telco. they can do it all
wimax wifi broad band cellular, you name it they can build it
for you, in particular they talk about "wireless" in general
companies w/ huge broad band networks are going wireless,
wireless mind you to complement their pre existing networks,
so w/ in networks they have voip
enter the carriers, the see their biggest companies already
have huge voip, w/ wireless voip, and seperately w/ cellular
those companies will say hey telco-cellular, were are quitting
our 100,000,000/year contract because we want seamless roaming
amd xyz offers it...
for big operators w/ cellular, land line, and data, voip is
just a jump away and can be developed quietly on the voip
side
so in summary
operators need to add voip
companies have in house voip, and cellular but no integration
equip mfg's (nortel) proves companies are pushing wireless
oem's nokia mot etc (clyw..he he) have got cellular voip
big cellular operators closest to telco can quietly add voip
big broad band oparators by default have voip covered
something is going to blow, its one thing to be first to
market w/ a 1250i phone, in some respects its no big deal
the BIG deal will be the first carrier to market w/ an
"ASNAP-like" compliant "Next-Next generaton" network, this
event is going to happen and regardless of whether or not
the use ASNAP initially (that is authentication is not linked
to revenue sharing), the 1250i phones will be able to work
but the industry is forward looking so knowing ASNAP is out
there they may poo poo the technology initially but benind
the scenes you can bet that they are developing a system that
will be compatible w/ such a technology...
Next-Next-Generation Networks are just around the corner and
its not whether clyw is firt to market w/ the ASNAP powered
phones, but rather the question is who is going to be first
to market w/ the Next-Next-Generation converged "ASNAP-like"
compliant networks
all signs point to a great race and Nortel and Lucent are
providing the picks and shovels to the operators that
are diggin in to be first, clyw will be relatively unknown
until it all goes on line w/ the throwing of a switch but
rest assured it will be a massive disruption and first to
market will be huge for the operator that acheives it
