Power-line concession not granted to Rosemont

The Arizona Corporation Commission tentatively agreed Wednesday not to transfer future hearings on a proposed power line for the Rosemont Mine back to the Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee, as Rosemont Copper had requested.
Meeting in Phoenix, the commission agreed to leave the case with an administrative law judge for now and make a final decision on the question when it meets May 10.
At that meeting, the commission also will discuss in detail requests from the mining company and Tucson Electric Power Co. to not accept evidence on the environmental impacts of the proposed mine - which the commission had agreed to accept back in March. The commission also will discuss that day which other parties can intervene in this case.
Jane Rodda, the law judge, has already agreed to let Vail-area activist Elizabeth Webb be an intervenor in the case once more, officials at the commission meeting said Wednesday. The line siting committee had revoked her intervenor status when it voted unanimously last December to approve the power line. Pima County applied this week to be an intervenor in the contentious case.
