OU to track athletics attendance

The Oklahoma athletic department is taking attendance.
On Saturday, OU will launch The Sooner Loyalty program, which will use technology to track who goes to games.

The system will reward fans who go to games — or pass along their tickets to others, through a new ticket sharing plan.

“These initiatives make it possible to maximize the use of our tickets, fill our venues and reward our fans,” OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said. “It is absolutely a win-win for everyone.”

OU officials said this is the first such program in college sports. In the past, the problem of season-ticket holders who elected not to attend games has been most noticible at OU basketball games, especially those that were officially sellouts.

Fans who attend more than 75 percent of the games they purchase season tickets for will get points, which are used by OU to determine seat location and ticket availability for marquee events.

Fans whose tickets are used for 100 percent of the events will receive an additional four priority points. Those whose tickets are used at 85 to 99 percent of the events receive three points. Two points are awarded to those whose tickets are used at 73 to 84 percent of the events.

The points can be accumulated at volleyball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s basketball and football games.

Bar codes on tickets — which can now be printed from any computer — track fans’ accounts.

Season-ticket holders receive a free membership to the Ticket Marketplace and Ticket Sharing portion of SoonerSports.com, the athletics department’s official site. Non-season-ticket holders can purchase Ticket Marketplace memberships for $25, giving them the opportunity to access premium tickets posted for sale by season-ticket holders.
