I believe it was the legendary fund manager and investor, Mario Gabelli, that stated (paraphrasing): "There's a 100% relationship between the price of a stock and the value of the underlying company, just not immediately."

And by that, he meant that the current price of a security may not always represent the fair value of that security, and there lies the buying opportunity. As always, simply my opinion.
