Where did all our manufacturing go?
China.
Where is a frightful portion of our financial data programmed?
India.
As a COBOL mainframe programmer, I pitched this to a few people at work today including one member of senior management. If you want to build a case for having inhouse, company employed programmers, this is it. Although we (currently) have this, many companies rely on the Indians to do what I do. If a nuclear war breaks out between China and India resulting in a massive loss of "professionals", these companies are going to be scrambling. COBOL programmers will be making 6 figures just to do maintenance.
Talk about Disaster Recovery.
I can't speak for others in my position, but I'd go to the highest bidder.
