If they are in the middle of buyout or merger talks they are in a silent period. Normally the silent period lasts for 60-90 days while the companys do their due dilligence. While many investors might view this as a negative, this is a process that takes time and is not something that happens overnight. I believe that all their chest thumping in January was not just an act.
Speaking from experience.. sold a privately held company to a public one in 2000.
