Canada is oil rich.

America and its economy is dependent on oil and natural gas. Bush already changed a campaign promise on global warming (coal burining issues) because he felt that that doing anything at this time to harm the economy was more important. No disrespect to Canada, but I think Bush will do what's best for our country, not for fish or wildlife up in the Artic. Is raping the land for energy right? No. But as your earlier post stated, ".....we have had tremendous technological innovations for the last 30 years. This technology now enables us to go in and produce oil and gas without doing any long-term environmental harm, and it has a very low noticeable temporary harm." Thank goodness for technological advances!

Bottom line, A pipeline will someday be built from Canada to the USA. Sure, the natives will protest, as well as others. But since when does big business and the American government ....you can fill in the rest.

Does anyone really think that Beaufort tremendous reserve will not be tapped?
