It is with deep, deep regret that I inform you all here in the Kitchen that our good friend Gary Grobbel passed away late last night. His best friend and wife Claudia was at his side, as was his son Chris who he was so very proud of, and rightfully so.

Gary won't need a large monument to remember him by because he leaves behind an incredible legacy of inspiration to those of us who knew him and followed him. His boundless energy and enthusiasm for investing that he displayed here was only one aspect of his amazing depth.

I often kidded with him that he was a real life John Wayne - the classic American hero battling against difficulties and pain to achieve what others might consider unreachable goals, and all the while never compromising his values or missing the chance to help those in need. The truth is I wasn't kidding.

Nobody in my lifetime impacted me more than Gary. I could write volumes on what he meant to me and what he taught me. I am grateful and honored to have shared time with him. To say his passing will leave a hole here in our investing community and in my heart and the hearts of many would be an understatement, not to mention the many charities he championed and supported.

Cancer took Gary from us way too soon. His endless quest to help his friends here enjoy investing, understand it, and make money to better their lives came to an end, but his spirit will ring loud and clear like an opening bell forever for those of us who loved him.
