I probably paid a bit too much for it, but I have wanted to own one since I first saw one on the shelf at a local gun shop in the mid 1960s, so I pulled the trigger yesterday. I bought a Savage model 99 in .250-3000 Savage. My goal is to get this thing shooting tight groups and use it for deer hunting. The recoil is just about non-existant, and it should have more than enough power for whitetails. I already ordered a set of reloading dies and some bullets (sierra 100 grain Game King boat tails) from Cabelas, and I bought one box of factory loads to see how it shoots. For me, this is very much like Christmas day for a youngster.
