I am on the West coast, and am usually up to see the premarket action at 5:00 when I am expecting action. I don't think the early time, in my experience, is a factor. I've seen rocket rides before the open. I think the whole deal is anticipation, somewhat on the order of quarter announcements on rising stocks when every one expects good news. The stocks start a gentle rise, and as the closer the announcement time gets, the curve gets steeper. If the news is one of the big ones that we are expecting, it could initiate the next run to the new level. So announcing after the market closes, gives everyone a time to stew over what it means, and with good news, the next day will be frantic action to get on board before the "train leaves the station." Just my opinion.
