As GDP has so many variables a more consistent look might be % of discretionary Federal Government spending or % of overall spending. %of discretionary spending is moving close to 50% and overall spending is between 17-19%.

The President's budget wants big increases, deficits far into the future, and tax reductions. He just can't say no unless it's to the people on the margins.
