Please tell us who Drmyke3? IMO, for ANY word/name/tag/whatever registry to "work" and be usable across the board it HAS to be "ubiquitous". Why do you think the AOL Keyword isn't everywhere? You got it...AOL isn't everywhere.

IMO, the ONLY company out there in the market today w/ any real chance of pulling off a search ending, navigation changing method of finding information in todays mobile society is NeoMedia.

Why? Yup, the patents. There can only really be one ultimate contolling "gate" to pass through to get the correct link. Why? Otherwise, how would "CompanyA's" wordregistry recognize and take a user to the same exact location as "CompanyB's" wordregistry. For example, let's say Yahoo! wants to own the word "weather" so that people can simply speak into their phone (w/ GPS capability) to instantly get the weather stats for exactly where they are from Yahoo!'s portal? You're telling me they'll have to pay MULTIPLE wordregisty companies money to have anybody on any cellphone on any network anywhere in the world, connect to the Yahoo! weather portal.

It wouldn't be feasable for anybody to use if anybody could create their own wordregistry. This isn't search, it's navigation based on only one word...spoken, written or photographed...one word. There can only be one registry. Otherwise that one word can take you here there anywhere depending on what registry you're using.

The world isn't a vacuum and everybody can see the benefits of a wordregisty like described but the benefit of such a concept would be totally lost if entities that want to use it to get their "word" out would have to worry about making sure their first in the door w/ cash in hand to register their name w/ every mom/pop wordregistry that decides to spring up out of nowhere all over the world. Remember, it's navigation NOT search. No second chance or ability to scroll down an screen to the next choice...that's search.

Rember, it's navigation. Even if there could be many companies to choose from that entities could "register" their word with, there ultimately would STILL have to be only ONE "Master List". And, you'd have to pay to be on the "Master List" so that the other "hosts" could access that list and navigate to your website.

The point I'm trying to make here is practically if not definitley proved right now for all of us to witness if my assumption is true that Xobile's Leapscan's "Optical Intelligence" technology is actually a lease or licence of ScanBuy's "Optical Intelligence". (Incidentally, if it weren't and I'm wrong in my assumption, don't you think that Xobile labeling it's Leapscan technology "Optical Intelligence" is a BLATANT and DIRECT copyright infringement? And, isnt' THAT what ScanBuy countersued NeoMedia for?).

If it were feasable for anybody to come up w/ their own wordregistry then why, pray tell, didn't ScanBuy come up w/ their OWN wordregistry for Xobile to register their name with??? Hmmmmmmmm?

Follow the trail again Dr.M...

ONE WORD = ONE REGISTRY

It's late and this may not be the most succint post I've ever written but are you starting to see see the ridiculous business (non)sense it would be if it weren't this way? Nobody would engage in it. For a wordregisty of any type to be truly beneficial to the entire world (let alone one country) there HAS to be only ONE way of it working...one "MasterList" so to speak. Otherwise, it won't work, IMO.

That's the way I see it. All IMHO.

I gotta ask again...Who DrM.? And, of the "others", how profitable and widely known are they and what's the scope of their reach? Please don't give me AOL. They only reach as far as your desktop and dial-up connection anyway. Even if they went "mobile", I still wouldn't be able to SPEAK the word "weather" into my phone and have instant access to weather information wherever I'm at using their keyword. I'd have to TYPE the damn word "weather" into my phone. Unless, of course they were to "pay the toll" to "cross THAT bridge". ;)
