Can you please elaborate on your comment "That first plane served a purpose quite well actually."

How did BLTA benefit from spending money on this plane? I know (without needing any additional info) that ANY plane that suffered a belly landing would not be a good option. Seems like common sense to me...

I would really like to know how they benefited from this...
