Greenhouse Gases Revisiited. Sulfur converts or oxidizes to SOx upon combustion. Airborne Sulfur Oxides (SOx) can cause asthma and other respiratory ailments. EPA has administered both emission and ambient quality SOx standards under the Clean Air Act. Problem- there were alot of non compliant coal fired electric plants that were "grandfathered" until major permit revisions were required. This let the older polluting plants continue while other newer plants were required to meet Greenhouse gas emissions standards. Cheap electricity made them money hand over fist but no more..

Currently under the revised EPA regulations the CAA is now a living document. This means that the grandfather loopholes are being closed. ASWR supplies low sulfur coal therefore there is an advantage over the east coast coal which can contain over 100 times more sulfur.

If I were a coal plant I would need low S coal now more than ever. ASWR will carry a premium for this reason alone.
