Liberty Star’s Hay Mountain Geochemical Samples Under Analysis at Canadian Facility

TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp. (the “Company”) (OTCBB: LBSR.OB - News) is pleased to announce the Company’s sample preparation contractor (MEG Inc.) has completed shipment of all rock chip and soil geochemical samples collected over the Company’s Hay Mountain claims to a certified geochemical analysis lab in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Ideally, results can be expected within the next three to six weeks. The project area’s biogeochemical (vegetation) samples are currently at the MEG facility near Reno, Nevada and are being processed for assay. As soon as they are processed (estimated two weeks) they will be sent by air freight to the same certified lab in Vancouver.

The 621 sample sites over approximately fourteen square miles centered on the Hay Mountain target generated three samples each (except where rock or soil or vegetation was not available) and produced over 1,800 samples. Each sample will be assayed for 63 elements generating about 113 thousand analyses. These assays will be processed by various computer programs into graphs and maps showing elemental concentrations in the three different types of samples. Metal zoning patterns of porphyry copper-gold systems are well known as a result of the Guilbert-Lowell Porphyry Copper (gold) model. Because geologic forces cause metal and trace elements to move to the surface where they can be detected by geochemical sampling and assaying, it is expected that the results of the geochemical sampling will reveal metal and trace element targets suitable for exploratory drilling.

In addition to geochem analytical work, Liberty Star is prepared to undertake a ZTEM survey over the Hay Mountain Project area which Liberty Star has designed. The survey should take about two weeks with results available shortly after its completion. Should thunderstorm conditions in the northern hemisphere (which power the EM signals) allow, the ZTEM could start March/April. According to Geotech, in the time since their 2010 survey over Liberty Star’s Big Chunk Super Project (Alaska), they have improved and refined their reporting through advances in imaging software technology.

The pre-drilling projects will be combined to design an efficient drilling program: the geochem results will identify metal zone targets and the ZTEM survey will outline mineral target geometry.

Safe Harbor Statement:

Statements in this news release that are not historical are forward-looking statements. Forward-looking statements in this news release include: that the results from the soil geochemical sampling analysis can be expected in three to six weeks; that the biogeochemical samples will be sent to Vancouver in approximately two weeks; that each sample will be assayed for 63 elements generating about 113 thousand analyses; that the assays will be processed in a particular manner; that Liberty Star is prepared to undertake a ZTEM survey, that it will take two weeks to complete and that results will be available shortly thereafter and that the survey could start in March/April; and that the geochem results will identify metal zone targets and outline mineral target geometry.

Factors which may delay or prevent these forward-looking statements from being realized include: the failure of our exploration program to identify targets; we may not be able to raise sufficient funds to complete our intended exploration or carry on operations; and an inability to continue exploration due to weather, logistical problems or hazards even if funds are available. Readers should refer to the risk disclosures in the Company’s recent 10-K and the Company’s other periodic reports filed from time to time with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
