Haysaw, >>> Cortex SA results on Central SA "astonishing" <<<

If you go back to the results for patients with Central type SA (slide 21), it really is astonishing. Summarizing the data -

The two baseline nights -- patients had 4 to 8 apneic events/hour

Night 3 (CX-1739) -- patients had less than 1 apneic event/hour

________________________________________________

The results for Mixed SA were also compelling -

The two baseline nights -- 3 to 4 apneic events/hour

Night 3 (CX-1739) -- 1 apneic event/hour

With Obstructive type SA, CX-1739 had no effect. So what Ampakines are doing is upregulating the specific regions in the brain stem that control respiration. This brain region is where the breathing problems in Central SA originate.
