NS, That's the ethanol. Where I live in N.C. we have to use ethanol in the summer time because of the ozone/pollution problem. That's why you have the higher octane. The lower you go with ethanol the engine starts knocking like heck.

It is hard on some internal parts of the motor, and burns the heck out of sparkplugs, but overall better milage and less pollution I believe.
