Your friend is right about computer programs, but don't forget those programs are put in by humans. My understanding, and please, any knowledgeable person correct me if this is wrong, but a signal to change the bid to other mms is a 5000 bid/ask shares.

Large companies may buy out a pink company but funds, who run the buys, don't touch anything under a $1.00 and some won't touch anything under $5.00 for their fund.
