Jacques Named Harvard Fellow

(Boston) Former Human Rights Campaign President Cheryl Jacques has been named a visiting fellow at Harvard University's Institute of Politics.

She joins former U.S. senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bob Graham, Benjamin Ginsberg, a campaign lawyer for President Bush in 2000 and 2004; Adam Nagourney, chief political correspondent for The New York Times; former U.S. Rep. Martin Frost (D-Texas); Lisa Davis, communications counsel for the Clinton-Gore 1996 re-election campaign; and veteran Republican strategist Joe Gaylord.

The institute is located at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Fellows lead weekly, not-for-credit study groups on a variety of political topics.

The Fellows Program encourages student interest in public life and increases information sharing between the academic and political communities.

"The Institute of Politics is excited to bring this diverse group of practitioners to Harvard. Their experience and enthusiasm for politics, public service, and civic engagement will help inspire both students and our community," said Jeanne Shaheen, Director of the Institute of Politics.

Jacques was a state senator in Massachusetts before becoming president of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBT civil rights group.

After 11 months on the job she abruptly left HRC last November in what was described by HRC at the time as "a difference in management philosophy." (story)

Currently she is a political commentator on the weekly "Political IQ" segment of "On Q Live" for Q Television. The LGBT network said that she will continue to do the program while she is at Harvard.
