SureWest Communications is a holding company. The Company, through its operating subsidiaries, provides a range of telecommunications, digital video, Internet, data and other facilities-based communication services in Northern California, primarily in the greater Sacramento region and in the greater Kansas City, Kansas and Missouri areas. The Company operates in two segments: Broadband and Telecommunications (Telecom). As of December 31, 2010, the Company's operating subsidiaries included SureWest Broadband, SureWest TeleVideo, SureWest Kansas, Inc., SureWest Telephone and SureWest Long Distance. The Telecom segment includes the Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) operations of SureWest Telephone and SureWest Long Distance. The Broadband segment includes substantially all of the rest of its operations.
