Cole breaks bone in lower leg


TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Carolina Hurricanes left wing Erik Cole left Thursday's night game at Tampa Bay with a broken bone in his lower left leg.

Cole landed awkwardly after being checked near the blue line by Tampa Bay's Dan Boyle midway through the second period.

Cole has 14 goals and 27 points in 53 games.

The Hurricanes also played without defensemen David Tanabe (shoulder injury) and Glen Wesley, who sat out his third straight game with a groin injury.
