The turbulent winds outside SNDY_train shook the coach windows.
The massive swell did its best to slow down what is inevitable—SNDY success.
“Absolutely incredible!”
I looked up. The SNDY_train Condutor was speaking to us all.
“Say again,” I asked.
“Absolutely incredible,” he repeated. A chorus erupted as most in the cabin roared in agreement.
When I first boarded, I admitted to several patrons I knew little about the anomaly that is the SNDY_train. Now, I found myself agreeing, but hoping the Conductor would elaborate. He did.
“The winds searched for shaky knees and failed, Wildkite.” That was the first time he called me by name. “The sine wave is dissipating as the Longs now modulate the SNDY_train speed.”
I heard a snicker--maybe two--from up front. It didn’t end there. They began crowing.
“We told you the train would slow down…stop…make a wrong turn on the track.”
I asked the Conductor if they had been right. He asked me to look out the window. I took a moment to oblige, but couldn’t make out much. The SNDY_train was moving too fast.
“Wildkite,” the Conductor said. “An expert can tell that we slowed down one KPH. An expert can tell you even a bullet obeys gravity. SNDY_train is a gem. Its path will break earth’s pull…and from there, go where few trains have gone before. If SNDY_train had speed up one KPH, the same snickers would tell us ‘See, I told you so.’”
