Good for you, I'm sure Uncle Sam appreciates it. I take profits as well, and I rebalance, those are taxable events. I just prefer to pay long-term capital gains than short-term. I'm not stupid, however, and I will realize short-term gains as opposed to not having any gains whatsoever. I just manage for efficiency as well as profits. I don't see anything wrong with that and every financial planner will agree.
