Universal American Corp. is a specialty health and life insurance holding company with a focus on providing a range of health insurance and managed care products and services to the senior population. Collectively, Universal American’s insurance company subsidiaries are licensed to sell life, accident and health insurance and annuities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. As of December 19, 2011, the Company sold Medicare Coordinated Care Plans, called health maintenance organizations (HMOs), Medicare coordinated care products built around contracted networks of providers, called preferred provider organizations (PPOs), Medicare Advantage private fee-for-service Plans (PFFS) Plans, Medicare supplement, fixed benefit accident and sickness insurance and senior life insurance.
