Harleysville Group Inc. (Harleysville Group) is an insurance holding, through its subsidiaries, it is engages in the property and casualty insurance business on a regional basis in the United States. As of December 31, 2010, Harleysville Mutual Insurance Company (the Mutual Company) owned approximately 54% of its outstanding shares. The Company and the Mutual Company operate together to focus on underwriting an array of personal and commercial coverages. These insurance coverages are marketed in the eastern and Midwestern United States through approximately 1,300 insurance agencies. Regional offices are maintained in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia. It has three segments: the personal lines of insurance, the commercial lines of insurance and the investment function. On December 30, 2010, it acquired Mainland Insurance Company (Mainland) from the Mutual Company.
