U.S. retail sales of new video game products fell 34% in January to $750.6 million from $1.14 billion a year ago, according to new data from NPD Group. Video game hardware sales were down 38%; software sales were down 38%, or 37% including PC games; accessories sales were down 18%.
NPD said that the weak performance reflected “a lack of software launches, and poor hardware and accessory performance partly related to bad comps from Kinect-related success in January 2011.”
