Central Bancorp, Inc. is a bank holding company. The Company was organized to acquire all of the capital stock of Central Co-operative Bank (the Bank). The primary business of the Bank is to generate funds in the form of deposits and use the funds to make mortgage loans for the purchase, refinancing, and construction of residential properties and to make loans on commercial real estate in its market area. In addition, the Bank makes a limited amount of consumer loans including secured and unsecured personal loans, and commercial and industrial loans. The Bank sells some of its residential mortgage loan production in the secondary mortgage market. The Bank also maintains an investment portfolio of various types of debt securities, including corporate bonds and mortgage-backed securities, and common and preferred equity securities. The Bank also offers investment services (including annuities) to its customers through a third party broker-dealer and its insurance affiliate.
