Description
This position supports the development and documentation of the Embarq™ family of transport processors, a new entrant in the field of PHY devices for the transport of broadband signals across telephony outside plant.
Job Responsibilities Include
§ Creating the ERD with collaborative input from Technical Advisory board, AFE supplier, system architect, systems and engineers for use by outside development team
§ Tracking progress of outside development team against the plan; identifying gating development obstacles; recommending and implementing action steps for resolution.
§ Documenting key technical innovations and working with Product Marketing to articulate them and train the sales, marketing and distribution partners
§ Creating reference designs for use by customers
§ Supporting customer tests and trials
Technical Requirements
§ Experience with generating test plans and managing/performing the ensuing update and testing procedures
§ Hands-on familiarity with testing methodologies, and quality control
§ Working knowledge of ADSL, ADSL2+, VDSL, VDSL2, FTTC, FTTH, BPON, GPON, GEPON, and DOCSIS (1.1, 2.0, 3.0) across both physical (coding techniques, RF), network layers (Ethernet, IP/MPLS), and access network elements (DSLAM, DLC, BLC)
§ Working knowledge of FPGA and ASIC SOC design methodologies
§ Working knowledge of IP video delivery protocols (RTP, RTSP, UDP, PIM-SM, PIM-DM, IGMP)
§ Working knowledge of modulation technologies (i.e. OQAM, 8VSB, QPSK, 8PSK)
§ Working knowledge of coding technologies (Reed-Solomon, Viterbi, Tubo Coding, LDPC, Space-Time)
§ Working knowledge of video compression technologies and standards (i.e. MPEG2, H.264, WM9, and VC-1)
§ Working knowledge of edge aggregation device line card design
§ Strong technical writing ability
Desired Skills (not required)
§ Working knowledge of IP/MPLS including routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
§ Strong familiarity with emergent access standards
Educational Requirements
§ BSEE or equivalent with 8 years significant technical experience; or
§ MSEE or equivalent with 4 years significant technical experience
