Yep..exactly.. if you had sell orders out there.. and didnt pull them in time.. they would get filled as the stock price kept going up..So ya.. if you were away.. you would lose out on what ever higher price it might go to beyond your sell price. Other thing to consider is a buyout offer is just that.. An offer.. so if the offer was for a 1.00.. doesnt meant the price becomes a dollar right then.. it will trade up to some point that reflects the markets beliefe in the buy out. What I mean is it may go up to .60 or .70.. until more firm confirmation of the offer is released.. again its all market driven. I have seen many stocks release buy out offers, the price of course spikes.. then as more DD is done and people start looking into where the offer is coming from, the price falls back down because the offer is pretty much bogus or seems shady.. ya never know.. LOL.. thats why.. they always say.. You cant go broke taking a profit, and if your up, you should always try to lock in some profits..hard to do when a stock is running.. but its the smart play in the long run..
