But it is not the whole story... for Manitoba it is not much more because it is not that populated, but for Ontario ~13M pop, man we have ourselves about a 17B deficit provincially.

If you add up all the American Federal, Municipal, County, State, etc government debt, as a percentage of gdp,

and compare it to all the municipal, provincial and federal debt in Canada, you'll see we are not that far behind the States, imo...

And the States has been doing a great job at their municipal and county debt levels.

We had better regs with the banking and housing sectors, so they did not implode, as in the States. We had better social net, particularly healthcare so middle class people didn't fall into abject poverty, etc...

Those are the main differences why we have been fortunate through this,

But it is also why I think the USA will outperform the Canadian economy in 2012, and go nuts for 2013-2015, imo.

The banking is going to come back well in 2012, and I think housing will surprise everyone that has dire expectations.

Percentage wise their economy is set to rise and ours should just moderate...

I think the economy is going to blow some minds as the Boomers continue to retire and younger people see employment demand get below 8 on it's way to 7...
