That's the $64,000 question, isn't it.

Here's an article from the WSJ which mentions Perez was to retire in 2009 and how the Board talked him out of it.

All I can think is that, he began taking them on the path of no return and they needed the man with the idea to continue that idea. So in the end, we've the Board of Directors to blame?
