Prior to joining ECA, Mr. Markiles was a Senior Partner in the corporate, media and high technology practice group of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP, one of the world's largest law firms, where he specialized in sophisticated domestic and cross-border International public and venture capital transactions. Mr. Markiles also formed the law firm of Stubbs Alderton & Markiles, LLP, a firm with which he continues to be associated.

Mr. Markiles has acted as lead counsel in sophisticated and novel transactions ranging from going private tender offers, to public and private mergers and acquisitions, to numerous initial and secondary public offerings and venture capital transactions. Mr. Markiles' transactions have included transactions in the international capital markets, including public offerings by US issuers in the international capital markets and mergers and acquisitions of and by European publicly traded companies.

After receiving his J.D. degree, in 1986 from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he also received his undergraduate degree, Mr. Markiles joined and was ultimately admitted as a partner in Hill, Wynne Troop & Meisinger, LLP, a leading Los Angeles corporate and entertainment legal practice, which in 2001 merged with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP. In 2002 Mr. Markiles formed the law firm Stubbs Alderton & Markiles, LLP.
