The future of mass-grid electrical generation is most definitely nuclear. Look up Terra Power, a research company owned by Bill Gates. They have developed a reactor the size of a semi tractor that can power an entire major metro for 60 years on one 8-ton charge of uranium.

The role of natural gas is going to be the slow replacement of diesel in trucking, then it will move into cars and other avenues.
