Syria: Russian Ship Suspected Of Carrying Munitions To Syria Stopped In Turkey
January 14, 2012 | 2247 GMT

A Russian ship, the Chariot, suspected of delivering munitions
to Syria, anchored off Turkey’s coast Jan. 14, AP reported.
Turkish Foreign Ministry official Selcuk Unal said coast guard
and customs officials will board the ship before it can dock at
Iskenderun.
The ship’s captain said the ship had arrived from Syria.
Officials said the ship was carrying four containers with
dangerous cargo and needed to be inspected in accordance
with an EU embargo.
An unnamed Cypriot official said the containers carried
a shipment of bullets.
Turkish officials said navy intelligence indicated the ship
went to Tartus in Syria after leaving Cyprus.
