Advancis strep throat drug fails to meet endpoints

NEW YORK, July 22 (Reuters) - Advancis Pharmaceutical Corp.'s (AVNC.O: Quote, Profile, Research) strep throat treatment has failed to meet two primary goals in a late-stage clinical trial, the drugmaker said late on Thursday.

The Germantown, Maryland company said its Amoxicillin Pulsys treatment for children with strep throat failed to achieve the desired microbiological and clinical endpoints in a Phase 3 clinical trial. It will now review the data and decide what it can do to improve future outcomes.
