they are market makers that facilitate trades in the market to maintain liquidity to a level the mkt will allow. In reality they do not care if this stock goes up or down. If someone has shares that are being traded thru those desks, then, to you, it may appear that they are trading it but in reality it is an investor somewhere buying or selling
