I haven't been here long enough to rate Ben Hansel's performance, either good or bad.

I have been in enough pharma/R&D stocks to know that there are long, dark periods due to the very nature of the company's research.

Try & fail, try & fail, try again, then maybe a breakthrough.
Follow up on that breakthrough, only to find out it is nothing but a dead end.
Go back and start again.

That process alone has to be a nightmare for a PR/IR guy - waiting with no news.

I would imagine if Hansel is even a halfway decent IR, the last 2-3 months have been like a kid waiting for Christmas - he may have a sense that things are heating up, publications are being prepared, etc. - and, finally, now he can get to work in earnest.

I think 2012 will tell what kind of a PR/IR man he actually is, now that he has actual news and verifiable, proven scientific progress to announce - possibly the first of many fantastic events for 2012.

If he drops the ball now, I will happily join arms with the complainers. As for me, I'll hold off judgment for the next 2 quarters.
