Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) is trimming the fat, and in a big way.
According to Digitimes Wednesday, the chip-maker will be cutting out production of over 25 existing desktop CPU models starting in the second quarter of 2012. The move is intended to clear-up space for the new 22-nanometer Ivy Bridge processors, which are slated to debut then.
Models being cut include: "Celeron E3500, Pentium E5700, Core i5-661/660, Core i7-960/950/930/870, Core i5-2300/680/670, Pentium G960, Core i7-875K/860S, Core i5-760/750S/655K and Celeron 450/430 in the first quarter, as well as Core i7-880S/870S, Core Duo E7500/E7600, Pentium E6600/E550 and Celeron E3300."
On the report, Intel shares are up about 0.2 percent Wednesday.
